Miranda Danielle Beck was a beautiful, young girl, like many children she looked forward to fun times, holidays and the love of her family. Miranda was a healthy 10 year old living life to its fullest. As her parents, we always made sure she kept up with her yearly doctor visits but on January 26, 2007 her mother received the phone call all parents never dream of receiving, Miranda was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). We were immediately referred to Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA. A few days later we were told that Miranda not only had ALL but also had an additional complication, (Philadelphia Chromosome), which meant she would need a bone marrow transplant. Miranda, and our family began the long journey to recovery. From there on Miranda spent most of her days at Mattel Children’s Hospital. Our lives were turned upside down!
Miranda was unique in many ways, her gentle voice, the twinkle in her eyes, her great tenacity to live. It was her high spirits which made people feel comfortable, at ease with themselves, and simply, happy to be alive.
She was an angel disguised as a little girl! Her capacity to make friends in any situation was a testament to her vibrant and welcoming spirit. Always taking the underdogs under her wings.
Miranda was born August 23, 1996, in Pasadena, California. She attended St. Andrew Elementary School in Pasadena, she enjoyed soccer, swimming, choir but mostly the company and love of her family.
She will be remembered by her kindness, her beautiful, infectious smile and her joy for living that welcomed everyone into her world. She will continue to be loved by all she touched.
We lost Miranda at the age of 12 years on Monday, October 13, 2008, after numerous complications from the chemo drugs and the bone marrow transplant.
Our Altadena Rose will live forever in our hearts!
